Your free standing ice maker needs some TLC

July 14, 2022

Free standing ice makers are notoriously problematic, and typically because we don’t care for them properly, not because the machines are faulty! Ice makers need to be cleaned at least twice a year. This is especially applicable in Houston, given our hard water, which wreaks havoc on valves, pumps, and moving parts.

If you’re cleaning a machine for the first time after a few years, don’t be surprised if issues arise post-cleaning. Further, don’t be shocked if the repair requires some trial, error, and expense, as broken components are often hidden. As a hedge for this scenario, ask your technician for the surest repair solution and compare that cost to a replacement, then decide.
